Enrollment at South Plains College is following what President Kelvin Sharp said is an unofficial downward trend among community colleges statewide.

For the first time since 2009 SPC's fall enrollment is below 10,000 students. As of the twelfth day of classes, the total among all campuses is 9,710 which is 828 fewer students than last fall and a 7.8 percent decline.

Dr. Sharp said based on the data, it seems many part-time students did not return to school possibly because they chose to find job opportunities that were not available before.
